This class will work on a flamenco-inspired adaptation of Michael Jackson's iconic "Billie Jean" choreography, with flamenco footwork, rhythm, musicality, and expressive performance to create a fresh fusion of styles.

WORKSHOPS WITH EDWIN APARICIO!

Come learn from master choreographer and dancer Edwin Aparicio, as he leads a 90-minute workshop introducing students to the festive rhythm of Tango Flamenco and the 12-beat compás.

Bulerías / Level 2 & 3
This workshop will be devoted to the rhythm of Bulerías with an emphasis on understanding structure/phrases/lyrics. Familiarity with 12-beat rhythms is necessary, as we continue to explore this rhythm as a community.

Intro to Tango Flamenco / Intro & Level 1
Choreography & Applied Technique
This five-week class will teach students about some basics of flamenco dance technique, including terminology, introduction to compás/rhythm, basics of upper body technique and footwork, and simple phrases in a four-beat rhythm. This technical knowledge will be applied to learning a Tango Flamenco choreography. Tango Flamenco is a festive and rhythm-driven dance suited for beginner dancers. A great class for those who have less than a year of experience with flamenco!

Alegrías / Level 1 & 2 ONLY / Technique & choreography
This class is a Level 1 & 2 class, where students will be immersed in learning a choreography for Alegrías de Cádiz, a dance that uses a 12-beat rhythm (compás de 12), and that has a very interesting and complex structure. Choreography will be developed throughout the year with the goal of performing at out recital in May 2027.

All classes have a maximum enrollment of 9 students and a minimum enrollment of 4 students, unless otherwise noted. Drop in fee is $20 for 1 hour classes and $25 for 75 minute classes, and is available only if there’s room. Please consult with the instructor before attending on a drop-in basis.
